Regional President

For over 75 years, the USO has been the nationís leading organization to serve the men and women in the U.S. military, and their families, throughout their time in uniform. From the moment they join, through their assignments and deployments, and as they transition back to their communities, the USO is always by their side.

Todayís USO continuously adapts to the needs of our men and women in uniform and their families, so they can focus on their very important mission. We operate USO centers at or near military installations across the United States and throughout the world, including in combat zones, and even un-staffed USO service sites in places too dangerous for anyone but combat troops to occupy.

The Regional President leads a regional business unit, responsible for business strategy, delivery of programs and services, resource development, and oversight of operations in a US geographic region

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties):      

  • Reporting to the CEO, develop and implement regional business strategy consistent with USO organizational strategy to develop and implement programs, strengthen brand awareness, and generate financial and in-kind support within assigned geographic region.*
  • In coordination with the Chief Operating Officer, establish and oversee short and long-term management of plans, programs, and practices; facilitate and enable successful delivery of high-quality services that are consistent and compliant with USO policies, procedures and core values.*
  • Serves as a member of the senior leadership council, to review and approve annual organizational plans and budgets.*
  • Lead, manage and mentor Director of Operations, Vice President of Development, and Executive Directors/Center Directors.*
  • Build, improve and maintain sustainable working relationships with key U.S. military leaders in the region to gain insight on programmatic needs of the military communities in the region.
  • Build and maintain Regional Boards of regional business and civic leaders to provide advice and support for the development, funding, and delivery of USOís mission in the region.*
  • Responsible for building strong relationships with key organizations and community leaders. Cultivates relationships and partnerships with external constituents to further the USO mission. Those partners include donors, governments, corporations, civic organizations and other community charitable and nonprofit agencies.*
  • Review performance metrics related to the delivery and the quality of programs, services, equipment, facilities and events. Present results to Senior Leadership and provide feedback to subordinate staff on results as well as suggested and/or required changes.*
  • Develop proposed operating budgets for the assigned geographic region for review and approval. Regularly monitor financial progress against goals.*
  • In coordination with the Chief Development and Marketing Officer, create fundraising strategies and set revenue targets for regional operations. Identify, cultivate and solicit prospective donors and key leaders of prospective partners; promote a culture of fundraising in the organization, both at the staff and board level.  Manage and secure revenue goal in the region.  
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications:

  • Bachelorís Degree in Business Administration or related field. Masterís degree preferred.
  • Fifteen and/or years of progressively responsible work experience, including 7 years of strategic leadership experience in the management of organizations of comparable size and mission. Relevant experience in a not-for-profit, military, and/or global organization is preferred.
  • Relevant experience in successfully managing a business unit with significant P&L responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and lead high-performing teams. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and achieve desired results through others.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and problem-solving skills. Ability to interact with the USO Board of Governors, senior leadership, the general public and military audiences at a variety of levels with integrity and professionalism.
  • Proficiency with developing long-term strategic direction and with business support functions (i.e. budget, planning, management) for a large enterprise or multiple business units.
  • Demonstrated success leading revenue generation through business development and managing multiple funding channels. Fundraising experience in a non-profit environment is preferred.
  • Demonstrated initiative/self-motivation, with the ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Proficiency using computers and electronic equipment. Working knowledge of various software, applications, and programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials necessary to access USO Center locations and facilities including but not limited to security, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, valid driverís license.
  • Must be a strong advocate of the USOís mission.
