Center Operations Supervisor

Since 1941, the USO has been the nationís leading organization to serve the men and women in the U.S. military, and their families, throughout their time in uniform. From the moment they join, through their assignments and deployments, and as they transition back to their communities, the USO is always by their side.

Todayís USO continuously adapts to the needs of our men and women in uniform and their families, so they can focus on their very important mission. We operate USO centers at or near military installations across the United States and throughout the world, including in combat zones, and even un-staffed USO service sites in places too dangerous for anyone but combat troops to occupy.

The USO Travis AFB center provides a modern complimentary lounge for service members and military families residing at or visiting Travis AFB. The center features a variety of services and programs to strengthen resiliency and enhance military life at Travis AFB and in Northern California.

The Center Operations Supervisor (COS) is responsible for the hospitality of the center to ensure a safe and relaxing environment for military guests and families. The COS coordinates with team members and volunteers to staff and maintain operations and services taking place daily to include weekends.

The COS also works with the USO team to support military outreach and programming in the center, on Travis AFB and throughout the Northern California region when needed.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties)

  • Manage day-to-day center operational procedures and work with center staff and volunteers to ensure a cost-effective, safe, welcoming, clean and well-maintained environment.*
  • Staff the center up to 5 days a week and on selected weekends when operations and programs are open to military guests
  • Develop, improve and maintain working relationships with US Military, local business and community leadership, donors, and partners to support successful service delivery and enhance awareness of the USO mission.*
  • Lead, mentor and supervise volunteers for general and program activities including recruitment, training, development and recognition.*
  • Work with the team to operate the center within approved budgetary guidelines, including cash handling. Track and maintain accurate inventory. Provide information for consolidated financial, operational and statistical reports as requested. Provide any other ad hoc reports as required.*
  • Control, safeguard and maintain the fabric, furniture, fitments, equipment and assets in the Center and maintain standards of cleanliness within the center. Ensure that safety, sanitary and food-handling regulations are followed.*
  • Collaborate with teammates to create and maintain a Standard Operating Procedure file that details local operational procedures and Center activities to enable prompt reporting, easy rotation and follow-on.*
  • Support in the design and distribution of multi-channel promotions and campaigns to enhance awareness of USO centers, events, programs and services. Support the management of USO Northern California social media, communications, newsletters, publications and website content.
  • Perform assigned duties in the absence of supervisor.*
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelorís Degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years work experience in retail, customer service, recreation facility or related role. Relevant experience in a not-for-profit, military, multicultural and/or global organization preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service and problem-solving skills. Ability to interact with USO Leadership, donors, the general public and military audiences at a variety of levels with integrity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment related to controversial and/or culturally sensitive subjects. Ability to handle confidential information with tact and poise.
  • Must show initiative, self-motivation, and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities. Ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Ability to achieve desired results while working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to perform basic math and follow proper cash/donation handling and reporting procedures, business/accounting functions including project management and budget reconciliation.
  • Proficiency using computers and electronics equipment. Working knowledge of various software, applications, and programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom and Teams.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials necessary to access US military, airport and USO Center locations and facilities including but not limited to security, COVID-19 vaccination record, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, valid driverís license.
  • Must be a strong advocate of the USOís mission.

Details:

  • This position is located at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, CA. Preference will be given to local candidates within commuting distance to the location.
  • USO locations will adhere to local area and DOD guidelines regarding COVID vaccination/testing requirements. Employees may be required to be vaccinated or tested regularly per local requirements.
