Center Operations Specialist - Overnight (Part-Time)

Since 1941, the USO has been the nationís leading organization to serve the men and women in the U.S. military, and their families, throughout their time in uniform. From the moment they join, through their assignments and deployments, and as they transition back to their communities, the USO is always by their side.

Todayís USO continuously adapts to the needs of our men and women in uniform and their families, so they can focus on their very important mission. We operate USO centers at or near military installations across the United States and throughout the world, including in combat zones, and even un-staffed USO service sites in places too dangerous for anyone but combat troops to occupy.

The USO San Francisco International Airport (USO SFO) center serves active duty military members and their families twenty-four hours a day for 365 days a year. Whether it is a layover between flights, a change of station, or a check-in point prior to embarking to a local training destination, the USO SFO lounge provides a modern complimentary respite spot for service members traveling to and through Northern California.

The Center Operations Specialist (COS) supports the evening and overnight hospitality of the center to ensure a safe and relaxing environment for military guests at SFO airport. The COS coordinates with team members and volunteers to staff and maintain operations and services on selected days with hours primarily taking place 10:00pm-7:00am weekdays and weekends.

On selected occasions, The Part-Time COS may work with the USO team to support military outreach and programming throughout the region .

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties)

  • Assist with the management of the day-to-day center operational procedures during assigned shifts, including but not limited to opening and/or closing, key control, inventory control and management, Emergency Preparedness Plan compliance, and following safety and security protocols.*
  • Work with center staff and volunteers to ensure a cost-effective, safe, welcoming, clean and well-maintained environment during assigned shifts.*
  • Staff center during overnight/extended hours up to 3 days a week when the center is under 24 hours/7 days a week operations.
  • Supervise and support volunteers during assigned shift, ensuring that quality customers service and support is provided and staffing levels are consistent with service delivery standards.
  • Engage and interact with guests visiting the center during assigned shifts.
  • Work with the team to operate the center within approved budgetary guidelines. Monitor, track and maintain accurate inventory.
  • Control, safeguard and maintain the fabric, furniture, fitments, equipment and assets in the Center and maintain standards of cleanliness within the center. Ensure that safety, sanitary and food-handling regulations are followed during assigned shifts.*
  • Perform assigned duties in the absence of supervisor.*
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelorís Degree preferred.
  • 0-2 years work experience in retail, customer service, recreation facility or related role. Relevant experience in a not-for-profit, military, multicultural and/or global organization preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service and problem-solving skills. Ability to interact with USO Leadership, donors, the general public and military audiences at a variety of levels with integrity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment related to controversial and/or culturally sensitive subjects. Ability to handle confidential information with tact and poise.
  • Must be punctual, organized and self-motived with the ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Ability to achieve desired results while working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to perform basic math and follow proper cash/donation handling and reporting procedures.
  • Proficiency using computers and electronics equipment. Working knowledge of various software, applications, and programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom and Teams.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials necessary to access US military, airport, and USO Center locations and facilities including but not limited to security, COVID-19 vaccination record, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, valid driverís license.
  • Must be a strong advocate of the USOís mission.

Details:

  • This part-time position is located at San Francisco International Airport in San Francisco, CA. Preference will be given to local candidates within commuting distance to the location.
  • USO locations will adhere to local area and DOD guidelines regarding COVID vaccination/testing requirements. Employees may be required to be vaccinated or tested regularly per local requirements.
