Manager, Digital Marketing

Since 1941, the USO has been the nationís leading organization to serve the men and women in the U.S. military, and their families, throughout their time in uniform. From the moment they join, through their assignments and deployments, and as they transition back to their communities, the USO is always by their side.

Todayís USO continuously adapts to the needs of our men and women in uniform and their families, so they can focus on their very important mission. We operate USO centers at or near military installations across the United States and throughout the world, including in combat zones, and even un-staffed USO service sites in places too dangerous for anyone but combat troops to occupy.

The Manager, Digital Marketing acts as the organizational expert for USO direct marketing platforms and partners with internal teams to support the successful execution of data-driven, integrated digital marketing campaigns and activations for USO audience segments.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties)

Web (40%):

  • Serve as the strategic lead for the website and the user experience with the goal of driving traffic, engagement, and click-throughs by developing and optimizing content.
  • Support development and management of web pages to support regional and national fundraising activations.
  • Serve as project lead on cross-departmental teams to develop and execute web and digital solutions including but not limited to, Center Websites, USO Wishbook, Team USO, mobile options, and microsites.
  • Manage all eCommerce related platforms and investments including donation landing pages and ecommerce solutions, Wishbook (or other alternative giving sites) and 3rd party sites (Amazon Smile, Network for Good, etc.).*
  • Develop compelling copy and creative that will be used in Direct Response fundraising campaigns.
  • Manage the front-end development of web pages and content for all USO web properties. Arrange, edit and optimize content in order to increase brand awareness, and maximize traffic/constituent acquisition through online experiences.
  • Continually test and enhance key USO website experiences (e.g., donation pages, homepage, etc.).
  • Own SEO work, including optimization suggestions for content, keyword growth tracking, quantifying the impact of search traffic, and vendor management
  • Manage SEO reporting for multiple websites, assist content owners in identifying SEO opportunities, and coordinate technical and content updates to support SEO strategies

Email (30%):

  • In support of regional and national fundraising activities, assist with the execution of email and marketing automation campaigns including messaging development, setup, targeting and testing to deployment and data monitoring.
  • Assist with analyzing all aspects of the email programís performance metrics and providing recommendations to improve the effectiveness of campaigns.
  • Monitor, track and report all email marketing campaigns (including open rates, conversion etc.) and collaborate with team members to develop test campaigns to execute new initiatives and increase conversion.

Marketing Analysis and Performance Tracking (30%):

  • Develop insights from marketing research, data analytics and marketing analytics, and incorporate into marketing strategy and tactics.
  • Provides budget to actual reports on associated direct response activities.
  • Authors and designs new reports that increase reporting capabilities, drive strategy and improve program performance.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Specifications

  • Bachelorís Degree in Marketing or related field required.
  • 5+ years work experience in a digital marketing, online fundraising or web administration role. Relevant experience in a not-for-profit, military, multicultural and/or global organization preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of web publishing technologies, digital marketing tools and website analytics platforms. Solid understanding of best practices in web design, front-end development and user experience assessments.
  • Experience developing Google Analytics reports, dashboards and performing in-depth analyses.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex analytical findings.
  • Ability to keep pace with SEO, search engine, social media and internet marketing industry trends and developments.
  • Knowledge of ranking factors and search engine algorithms.
  • Experience building inbound organic search traffic and improving search engine results pages.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage and influence external vendor relationships.
  • Possess the ability to effectively manage multiple projects, pay close attention to detail, thrive in a rapidly changing environment and meet short turnarounds and deadlines.
  • General knowledge of various software, applications, and programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, content management systems, e-commerce, HTML scripting and other programming platforms.
  • Ability to perform basic business/accounting functions including project management and budget reconciliation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials necessary to access USO center locations and facilities including but not limited to security, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, valid driverís license.
  • Must be a strong advocate of the USOís mission.


  • This position is located in Arlington, VA. Preference will be given to local candidates within commuting distance to the location. Remote working arrangements may be considered for highly qualified candidates.
  • USO locations will adhere to local area and DOD guidelines regarding COVID vaccination/testing requirements. Employees may be required to be vaccinated or tested regularly per local requirements.
