Business Analyst

Description/Job Summary

For over 75 years, the USO has been the nation’s leading organization to serve the men and women in the U.S. military, and their families, throughout their time in uniform. From the moment they join, through their assignments and deployments, and as they transition back to their communities, the USO is always by their side.

Today’s USO continuously adapts to the needs of our men and women in uniform and their families, so they can focus on their very important mission. We operate USO centers at or near military installations across the United States and throughout the world, including in combat zones, and even un-staffed USO service sites in places too dangerous for anyone but combat troops to occupy.

The Business Analyst’s role is to elicit, analyze, specify, and validate the business needs of stakeholders, be they customers or end users. This includes interviewing stakeholders and gathering and compiling user requirements to understand the technology solutions they need. The Business Analyst will also apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help make good technology decisions and play a pivotal role in ensuring IT’s understanding of business requirements. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties)   

  • Develop an understanding of the organization’s technology and user needs to provide in-depth analysis and solution options through creative problem solving.* 
  • Work closely with stakeholders to define and document business processes and requirements as they relate to desktop and mobile applications, including the Salesforce CRM.* 
  • Translate conceptual user requirements into functional requirements in a clear manner that is comprehensible to a development team. Where applicable, develop prototypes of interfaces and attributes based on the user requirements. * 
  • Communicate changes, enhancements, and modifications of business requirements– verbally or through written documentation – to project managers, sponsors, and other stakeholders so that issues and solutions are understood. Lead cross-divisional teams to build consensus and implement recommended system changes.* 
  • Manage and track the status of requirements throughout the project lifecycle; enforce and redefine as necessary.* 
  • Create and update documentation on system decisions, customizations, and overall usage.* 
  • Manage and track systems enhancements, customizations, and usage decisions. Identify areas for user experience improvement and develop solutions.* 
  • Collaborate with project working groups including coordinating meetings, producing agendas and minutes, distributing materials and tracking action items.* 
  • Collaborate with IT staff to identify high priority training opportunities for system users and develop curriculum. Incorporate business process updates into established technical trainings and related documentation.* 
  • Participate in software release and testing plans with software vendors and internal staff.* 
  • Test, document and deploy system configuration changes, enhancements, and bugs as assigned. * 
  • Other duties as assigned.  
Required Qualifications
  • College diploma or university degree in the field of business administration, computer science, finance, or information systems.
  • 3-5 years progressive work experience with business and technical requirements analysis, elicitation, modeling, verification, and methodology development.  Relevant experience in a not-for-profit, military, multicultural and/or global organization preferred.
  • Experience with the design, development, and implementation of software and hardware solutions, systems, or products.
  • Ability to create systematic and consistent requirements specifications in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Exceptional analytical and statistical skills with the ability to apply them to systems issues and products as required.
  • Ability to achieve desired results while working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.  Ability to interact with USO Leadership, the general public and military audiences at a variety of levels with integrity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment related to controversial and/or culturally sensitive subjects.  Ability to handle confidential information with tact and poise.
  • Working knowledge of basic business and accounting functions including project management and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated initiative/self-motivation, with the ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials necessary to access USO Center locations and facilities including but not limited to security, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, valid driver’s license.
  • Must be a strong advocate of the USO’s mission.
  • This position is located in Arlington, VA. Preference will be given to local candidates within commuting distance to the location.
