Manager, Brand Advancement & Events

For over 75 years, the USO has been the nation’s leading organization to serve the men and women in the U.S. military, and their families, throughout their time in uniform. From the moment they join, through their assignments and deployments, and as they transition back to their communities, the USO is always by their side.

Today’s USO continuously adapts to the needs of our men and women in uniform and their families, so they can focus on their very important mission. We operate USO centers at or near military installations across the United States and throughout the world, including in combat zones, and even un-staffed USO service sites in places too dangerous for anyone but combat troops to occupy.

Job Summary

The Manager, Brand Advancement & Events, reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer, is responsible for supporting the development and programmatic efforts of the USO of Metropolitan New York, a non-profit whose mission is to strengthen America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country, throughout their service to the nation.

Reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer, this role serves as the conduit to ensure that the USO brand and messaging are accurately represented in all USO materials, special events and digital channels.  Acting as point of contact with our headquarters Brand Advancement team, this role is responsible for ensuring the proper and timely integration of brand initiatives in our region.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Special Events

  • Responsible for the planning, budgeting, and coordinating of all fundraising events.
  • Provide quality management of special events such as our annual gala, golf tournament and Fleet Week.
  • Research, identify, negotiate and manage venues, vendors, contracts and budgets.
  • Coordination of all event logistics including collateral, signage, staffing.
  • Manage all event expenses.
  • Manage and implement all aspects of on-site fundraising activities, i.e. silent auctions.
  • Manage in-kind donations when necessary.
  • Acting events manager on-site as needed.

Marketing & Communications

  • Responsible for all branded materials created in support of the organization.
  • Manage USO Metropolitan New York website and work with USO, Inc. on updates and analytics.
  • Managing multi-agency relationships including our printing company in Chicago.
  • Maintain a social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media outlets.
  • Creation and/or coordination of all print and marketing pieces as needed.
  • Updating USOconnects as required.
  • Maintain archives of all marketing materials, photography and other administrative tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of corporate, nonprofit or agency experience - experience with the military a plus.
  • Strong work ethic and self-discipline to work independently and within a close team.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Extensive experience in social media (Facebook & Twitter).
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of Adobe InDesign or Photoshop a plus.  
  • Personable self-starter and multi-tasker.
  • Personal integrity and discretion.
