Director, Entertainment Operations

For over 75 years, the USO has been the nationís leading organization to serve the men and women in the U.S. military, and their families, throughout their time in uniform. From the moment they join, through their assignments and deployments, and as they transition back to their communities, the USO is always by their side.

Todayís USO continuously adapts to the needs of our men and women in uniform and their families, so they can focus on their very important mission. We operate USO centers at or near military installations across the United States and throughout the world, including in combat zones, and even un-staffed USO service sites in places too dangerous for anyone but combat troops to occupy.

The Director, Entertainment Operations is responsible for the implementation and delivery of first-class entertainment to Americaís service members and their families.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties)   

  • Assist the Senior Vice President, Entertainment, develop and implement short-term and long range plans for successful delivery of a high volume and a wide variety of domestic and global USO tour and entertainment events.* 
  • Negotiate contracts and service agreements with celebrity entertainers and their representatives (agents, managers, publicists, studios, etc.), leveraging the value of affiliation with the USO brand.*
  • Establish, maintain and advance key and relevant relationships with, including but not limited to, the entertainment industry, senior military leaders, U.S. Department of Defense leaders, and other key partner organizations/entities related to delivery of entertainment.* 
  • Perform and monitor financial activities related to USO Entertainment initiatives, including but not limited to creation and reconciliation of operating budget.*
  • Lead, manage and mentor Entertainment operations team.*
  • Perform assigned duties in the absence of Senior Vice President, Entertainment and Programs.*
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelorís Degree in arts management, business or related field.
  • 10+ years progressive work experience in a leadership or management role, including 5+ years in a supervisory capacity.  Relevant experience in the media or entertainment industry.
  • Ability to identify emerging entertainment trends related to societal and cultural change.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge in event /production execution, multiple day touring and implementation. Familiarity with commercial entertainment and production logistics preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and lead high-performing teams.  Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and achieve desired results through others.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and problem-solving skills.  Ability to interact with USO Leadership, the entertainment industry, the general public and military audiences at a variety of levels with integrity and professionalism.
  • Proficiency with developing long-term strategic direction and with business support functions (i.e. budget, planning, management) for a large enterprise or multiple business units.
  • Demonstrated initiative/self-motivation, with the ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Proficiency using computers and electronics equipment.  Working knowledge of various software, applications, and programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials necessary to access USO Center locations and facilities including but not limited to security, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, valid driverís license.
  • Must be a strong advocate of the USOís mission.
  • This position is located in Arlington, VA. Preference will be given to local candidates within commuting distance to the location.
