Fundraising & Donor Database Specialist

For over 75 years, the USO has been the nationís leading organization to serve the men and women in the U.S. military, and their families, throughout their time in uniform. From the moment they join, through their assignments and deployments, and as they transition back to their communities, the USO is always by their side.

Todayís USO continuously adapts to the needs of our men and women in uniform and their families, so they can focus on their very important mission. We operate USO centers at or near military installations across the United States and throughout the world, including in combat zones, and even un-staffed USO service sites in places too dangerous for anyone but combat troops to occupy.

The Fundraising & Donor Database Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining the USOís development and fundraising database, examining trends and recommending efficiencies in fundraising.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties)   

  • Perform all Raiserís Edge donor database administration including but not limited to: record maintenance, reporting, duplicate record merging, clean-up tasks, security and quality control audits.
  • Produce and manage the accurate creation/generation of financial, analytical, statistical and demographic reports as well as mailing lists, recognition lists and other data extracts as requested. Design and generates customized reporting and sets in place automated processes as necessary.
  • Produce and manage reconciliation, revenue and other reports such as gifts and pledges and acknowledgement activity for USO Development Team.
  • Build and communicate performance metrics, reports and dashboards to illustrate key organizational trends. Use financial models that enable forecasting and lend greater predictability to fundraising revenue streams. Incorporate both quantitative and qualitative elements to convey key drivers of fundraising effectiveness.
  • In coordination with internal analysis working groups and key stakeholders across multiple departments, analyze strategies and tactics that result in optimal campaign performance and increased lifetime value of USO donors. Identify trends and opportunities in order to facilitate data-driven decision making.
  • Provide training and technical support to all Raiserís Edge database users. Assist fundraisers in using the aspects of the program required to support the fundraising efforts of the organization. Work with IT and outside vendors to troubleshoot network and software issues.

Job Specifications
  •  Bachelorís Degree in business administration, social science, public policy or related field.
  •  3-5 years of development or financial analysis experience. Relevant experience in a direct response analytics role in a not-for-profit, multicultural and/or global organization preferred.
  •  Strong analytical skills. Demonstrated proficiency using data querying tools with large data sets. Ability to utilize technology to integrate multiple dashboards preferred.
  •  Strong interpersonal, customer service and problem-solving skills. Ability to interact with USO Leadership, the general public and military audiences at a variety of levels with integrity and professionalism.
  •  Proficiency using computers and electronics equipment. Experience utilizing fundraising software, preferably Blackbaud Raiserís Edge or similar relational databases. Knowledge of various software, applications, and programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite. Superior Excel/Pivot Table experience a must.
  •  Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment related to controversial and/or culturally sensitive subjects. Ability to handle confidential information with tact and poise.
  •  Must show initiative, self-motivation, and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities. Ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational needs.
  •  Ability to achieve desired results while working collaboratively in a team environment.
  •  Ability to perform basic business/accounting functions including project management and budget reconciliation
  •  Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials necessary to access USO Center locations and facilities including but not limited to security, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, valid driverís license.
  • Must be a strong advocate of the USOís mission.
  • This position is located in Arlington, VA.  Preference will be given to local candidates within commuting distance to the location.
