Manager, Program Events and Logistics

For over 75 years, the USO has been the nationís leading organization to serve the men and women in the U.S. military, and their families, throughout their time in uniform. From the moment they join, through their assignments and deployments, and as they transition back to their communities, the USO is always by their side.

Todayís USO continuously adapts to the needs of our men and women in uniform and their families, so they can focus on their very important mission. We operate USO centers at or near military installations across the United States and throughout the world, including in combat zones, and even un-staffed USO service sites in places too dangerous for anyone but combat troops to occupy.

The Manager of Program Events and Logistics is responsible for product procurement, kitting management for delivery programs and kitting event execution. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties)   

  • Manage procurement for all large volume programs, monitor inventory in support of Program Managers and as it relates to external engagement event execution, forecast all kitting activity for delivery based programs, lead all care package stuffing event execution.
  • Collaborate with internal resources to monitor program product inventory levels and manage USO procurement for large volume, delivery based programming.  Set kitting schedule and manage pre-kitting forecasts, communicate updates on regular basis to fulfillment vendor.  Execute kitting orders based off forecasts derived from demand signals provided by Program Managers.
  • Establish calendar for and serve as Project Lead for all public engagement events related to kitting activities, to include full cycle event management process for assigned projects, including but not limited to ensuring that goals are clearly established and documented, coordinate program event promotion and publicity, on site leadership and coordination required.  Includes interfacing with key USO constituents and volunteers on a regular basis.
  • As directed by USO Operations leadership, develop, improve and maintain working relationships with current and potential partners to generate support for assigned programs.
  • Serve as staff liaison between internal USO staff and key stakeholders involved in planning, coordination, implementation and management of assigned programs.  Foster collaboration to maximize program reach and impact.
  • Manage program, event and service costs, to include significant inventory management reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  •  Bachelorís Degree in business or related field, with a masterís degree in a related field a plus
  •  3-5 years progressively responsible work experience in a program/project management role. Prior logistics and inventory management experience required.
  •  Willingness and ability to perform work in a non-traditional work environment (i.e. warehouse).
  •  Strong interpersonal, customer service and problem-solving skills with an emphasis on problem solving and intellectual curiosity. Ability to interact with USO Leadership, the general public and military audiences at a variety of levels with integrity and professionalism. Able to manage and influence vendor relationships.
  •  Proficiency using computers and electronics equipment. General knowledge of various software, applications, and programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite.
  •  Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment related to controversial and/or culturally sensitive subjects. Ability to handle confidential information with tact and poise.
  •  Must show initiative, self-motivation, and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities. Ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational needs.
  •  Ability to achieve desired results while working collaboratively in a team environment.
  •  Ability to perform basic business/accounting functions including project management, inventory management and budget reconciliation.
  •  Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials necessary to access USO Center locations and facilities including but not limited to security, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, valid driverís license.
  • Must be a strong advocate of the USOís mission. 
  • This position is located in Arlington, VA. Preference will be given to local candidates within commuting distance to the location.
