The Director, Digital Fundraising leads the strategy, execution, and performance of USO’s digital direct response fundraising efforts, a core pillar of USO’s revenue portfolio that supports pipeline development, donor retention, and channel diversification. This role is responsible for acquiring, retaining, and converting donors through channels such as paid search, programmatic advertising, social media, email, and the USO’s website. The Director, Digital Fundraising manages teammates and agency partners, builds integrated strategic roadmaps, and drives revenue growth with a focus on ROI, donor engagement, and long-term value. .

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties)

Fundraising Strategy and Execution (30%)

  • Lead the strategy, execution, and optimization for multimillion dollar digital direct response campaigns across paid search, programmatic advertising, paid social media, email, and the USO website.*
  • Partner with the SVP, Direct Response in developing online strategies to drive donor acquisition, retention, and monthly donor conversions.*
  • Recommend develop, and pilot new fundraising testing strategies across all online channels.*
  • Participate in cross-departmental meetings to ensure online campaigns and audiences are supported and integrated across the USO.*
  • Manage a team of digital fundraising professionals, fostering their growth and performance through regular feedback, mentoring, and development opportunities.*
  • Direct creative development, segmentation, and testing strategies across all digital fundraising campaigns.
  • Manage celebrity and influencer recruitment in support of digital fundraising campaigns in collaboration with Entertainment team.
  • Lead digital integration for cross-channel campaigns, ensuring cohesive donor journeys across email, web, social, direct mail, and DRTV. Collaborate with internal teams to optimize conversion paths and reduce audience overlap or fatigue.*
  • Manage digital premium processes, including budgeting, approvals, fulfillment tracking, and campaign integration.*
  • Represent the digital fundraising program internally and externally, sharing insights and recommendations to drive innovation and impact.*
  • Manage all eCommerce related platforms and investments including donation landing pages and ecommerce solutions, Wishbook (or other alternative giving sites) and 3rd party sites (, Network for Good, etc.).*
  • Develop compelling copy and creative that will be used in direct response online fundraising campaigns including SMS and paid media.*
  • Continuously test and enhance key USO website experiences (e.g., donation pages, homepage, etc.).
  • Serve as USO’s internal expert and advocate for digital direct response fundraising, supporting education, cross-functional strategy, and innovation in digital donor engagement.
  • Contribute to department priorities and special projects as needed.

Vendor Management (25%)

  • Select and manage external vendors and agencies for search, programmatic, social, and email fundraising. Lead RFPs and contract negotiations, oversee vendor invoice reconciliation, and ensure alignment with contract terms and budgets.*
  • Primary lead and project manager with agencies and vendors in developing go-to-market online fundraising strategies targeted to acquire and retain donors and convert donors to monthly donors.*
  • Ensure work quality and service levels provided by vendors and subcontractors meet expectations.*
  • Direct Statement of Work creation, amendment and extension periods, and manage contract processes.
  • Ensure compliance to regulatory processes.*
  • Track invoices and ensure expenditures adhere to budget.*
  • Manage donation forms and fundraising elements on the USO website; collaborate on SEO strategies to maximize traffic and conversion.

E-Mail (15%)

  • In support of regional and national fundraising activities, assist with the execution of email and marketing automation campaigns including messaging development, setup, targeting and testing to deployment and data monitoring.*
  • Analyze and reports on all aspects of the email program’s performance metrics and providing recommendations to improve the effectiveness of campaigns.
  • Monitor, track, and report on all email marketing campaigns (including open rates, conversion etc.) and collaborate with team members to develop test campaigns to execute new initiatives and increase conversion.*

Budget, Investments and Management, Marketing Analysis and Performance Tracking (30%)

  • Define and track key performance indicators for acquisition, conversion, and retention. Leverage analytics to inform decisions and maximize donor lifetime value.*
  • Partner with internal analysts and external vendors, including the Director, Budget & Donor Analytics, to implement advanced attribution and match-back models, and to maintain the tracking infrastructure that ensures accurate performance analysis and informs investment and campaign strategy.*
  • Monitor weekly and monthly channel performance, providing actionable insights and executive-level reporting. Adjust tactics based on donor behavior, revenue trends, and channel efficiency.*
  • Partner with SVP, Direct Response to develop annual revenue and expense planning for online programs. Review and approve each campaign budget and work with Finance to ensure all policies and procedures are met.*
  • Lead annual, quarterly, and monthly revenue forecasting, expense budgeting, and reforecasting in collaboration with the Senior Vice President of Direct Response.
  • Develop insights from marketing research, data analytics and marketing analytics, and incorporate into fundraising strategy and tactics.*
  • Lead monthly accruals and revenue and expense reconciliation processes. Review and approve agency budget systems and input into USO systems for approvals.
  • Authors and designs new reports that increase reporting capabilities, drive strategy and improve program performance.*

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or a related field required.
  • 10+ years of experience in digital marketing or online fundraising. Relevant experience in a not-for-profit, military, multicultural and/or global organization preferred, including 5+ years in a supervisory capacity.
  • 8+ years of experience managing external vendors and agency partners, including contract negotiation, performance oversight, and strategic collaboration.
  • Experience in digital fundraising, with a deep understanding of acquisition, conversion, email marketing, paid media, testing, and ROI analysis.
  • Proven success in leading multi-channel digital campaigns focused on donor growth and long-term value.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage vendors and agency partners, including contract negotiation, campaign execution, and quality control.
  • Advanced analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize data and present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at all levels.
