Reporting to the Organizational Development Manager, the Organizational Development Specialist assists with organizational need assessments; design, development, implementation and evaluation of training and professional development programs; and assists with strategic HR and change initiatives.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties)

  • Supporting the Organizational Development Manager with organizational development (OD) strategies, processes, and assessments.
  • Assist with the development, collection, and analysis of training/OD program data. Research best practices in onboarding, training, mentoring, career development, employee engagement and talent retention.*
  • Assist with the planning, development, implementation of development and training programs for USO employees to include supporting training delivery.*
  • Administer instruments related to OD/training work such as DiSC, 360 tools, e-learning tools, learning management system, etc.*
  • Aids HR team members to implement strategic projects/programs and track progress toward goals.*
  • Working on communications by drafting written materials such as presentations, program descriptions, and training materials. Respond to inquiries related to training and professional development programs. *
  • Engage with a wide range of employees at various levels, regions, and departments of the organization in support of HR priorities, strategic and change initiatives, and OD objectives.*
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • This is an in-person position located in Arlington, VA.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in organizational development, human resources, psychology, business administration or related field.
  • 3-5 years work experience in organizational development. Relevant experience in a non-profit, military, multicultural and/or global organization preferred.
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills, including proficiency as a presenter and facilitator. Adept with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods.
  • Ability to assist with the design and implementation of effective training and development programs, and ability to evaluate and research training options and alternatives.
  • Experience in collecting and analyzing data from training and development programs.
  • Experience in projects/programs requiring cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Ability to interact with employees at all levels throughout the organization with confidence, integrity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment related to controversial and/or culturally sensitive subjects. Ability to handle confidential information with tact and poise.
  • Must show initiative, self-motivation, and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities. Ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Proficiency using computers and electronics equipment. Working knowledge of various software, applications, and programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstrated expertise in Excel and PowerPoint highly desired.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials necessary to access USO Center locations and facilities including but not limited to security, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, valid driver’s license.
  • Must be a strong advocate of the USO’s mission.

  • The salary range for this position is $68,000- $85,000.
  • To support pay transparency, this posting includes the anticipated base salary range for this role. Compensation is determined based on several factors including geographic location, relevant experience, specialized skills, certifications, and overall alignment with the position requirements. Our compensation practices are designed to ensure market competitiveness and internal equity across roles and levels.
