Center Director

Department: Operations
Location: Los Angeles, CA, United States

Since 1941, the USO has been the nationís leading organization to serve the men and women in the U.S. military, and their families, throughout their time in uniform. From the moment they join, through their assignments and deployments, and as they transition back to their communities, the USO is always by their side.

Todayís USO continuously adapts to the needs of our men and women in uniform and their families, so they can focus on their very important mission. We operate USO centers at or near military installations across the United States and throughout the world, including in combat zones, and even un-staffed USO service sites in places too dangerous for anyone but combat troops to occupy.

The Center Director is responsible for the day-to-day operation and activities of one or more USO Centers and extending programs to unserved/under-served military communities.

Bob Hope USO provides USO services and programming to service members and military families across a 51,000-square mile area of Southern and Central California. We provide morale, welfare and recreation services to members of the U.S. military, their families and qualifying military retirees. We operate centers at LAX, Ontario International Airport, Palm Springs International Airport, John Wayne Airport, Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) Los Angeles, March ARB Deployment Center, and Fort Irwin, as well as provide USO programming and outreach at military installations across the region spanning from San Luis Obispo County through Orange County.

The Center Director supervises operations and program support at the USO LAX Center and the Los Angeles MEPS station. The director will also plan, coordinate, and lead, in partnership with USO West region personnel and program assets, program delivery efforts at military communities such as Vandenberg AFB, Edwards AFB, China Lake, Naval Base Ventura County and other military installations in the eight counties served by Bob Hope USO. This program delivery will require occasional travel outside the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

The director provides leadership to two full time staff members and USO volunteers, and works closely with the Bob Hope USO Field Program Specialist and Executive Director to develop programming and assist in allocating resources. Although the current volunteer force is approximately 110 volunteers, the director will be charged with leading an effort to rebuild the force that has been impacted by COVID restrictions and health concerns. This role will require a moderate degree of night and weekend availability to support programs and events.
