Regional Director of Operations - Northeast

Since 1941, the USO has been the nationís leading organization to serve the men and women in the U.S. military, and their families, throughout their time in uniform. From the moment they join, through their assignments and deployments, and as they transition back to their communities, the USO is always by their side.

Todayís USO continuously adapts to the needs of our men and women in uniform and their families, so they can focus on their very important mission. We operate USO centers at or near military installations across the United States and throughout the world, including in combat zones, and even un-staffed USO service sites in places too dangerous for anyone but combat troops to occupy.

The Regional Director of Operations, Northeast is responsible for operational leadership, delivery of programs and services, direction and management of multiple financially viable, self-sustaining USO operations in a US geographic region of the Northeast. The position may also have oversight responsibilities for regional Centers.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties)

  • Reporting to the Regional President, develop and implement regional business strategy consistent with USO organizational strategy to develop and implement programs, strengthen brand awareness, and foster financial and in-kind support within assigned geographic region.*
  • Implement and manage short and long-term plans, programs, and practices; facilitate and enable successful delivery of high-quality services and programs that are consistent and compliant with USO policies, procedures and core values.*
  • In coordination with and as directed by Regional President, build, develop and maintain sustainable working relationships with key US Military, private sector business partners, and where applicable, Regional Councils to support development, funding, and delivery of USOís mission in the region.*
  • Collect and review region-wide performance metrics related to the delivery and quality of programs, services, equipment and events. Direct and implement suggested and/or required changes.
  • Assist with preparation, review and oversight of operating budgets for designated region. Regularly monitor financial progress against goals.*
  • Lead and mentor regional staff leadership. Perform assigned duties in the absence of Regional President.*
  • The position may have line responsibility for regional Centers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelorís Degree in business or related field.
  • 10+ years progressively responsible work experience in a business operations role, including 5+ years in a supervisory capacity. Relevant experience in a retail, not-for-profit, military, multicultural and/or global organization and interacting with volunteers and diverse boards preferred.
  • Relevant experience in successfully managing a business unit with significant P&L responsibility.
  • In depth cultural knowledge of assigned geographic region. Fluency in English. Ability to speak, read and write in the language of the host country at a native level preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams. Ability to achieve desired results while working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Ability to interact with USO Leadership, the general public and military audiences at a variety of levels with integrity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment related to controversial and/or culturally sensitive subjects. Ability to handle confidential information with tact and poise.
  • Working knowledge of basic business/accounting functions, including project management and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated initiative/self-motivation, with the ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Proficiency using computers and electronics equipment. Working knowledge of various software, applications, and programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials necessary to access USO Center locations and facilities including but not limited to security, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, valid driverís license.
  • Must be a strong advocate of the USOís mission.


  • This remote position will report to the Northeast Regional Office. This employee may be located within the Northeast Region of the US. Relocation may be considered for highly qualified candidates.
